Rules and Regulations
Hawkins Point
- An authentic Union and Confederate camp will be established. No wall
of fly tents will be allowed on company streets. All modern items and equipment
will be kept out of the public view during the event.
- Passes will be issued to all participants who have filled out waivers
and returned to the Host Company. Walk-ons and late additions must register
to be issued the pass. Parking permits locations of camps, event schedule,
and a particiapants pass will be given out at the registration table. You
must have a pass with you at all times. Re-enactors may drive vehicles to
the authentic camps to unload, and must park in the designated unloading
areas only. A parking permit is required for each vehicle to enter the camp
unloaqding zone. No vehicles are allowed in the camp area after 9:00a.m.
Saturday and until after the battle on Sunday. There is a 15-mintue time
limit for parking at the unloading area.
- Sod and topsoil must be replaced where campfires are dug. The entire
area should be free of trash. At no time will trash be placed in the firepits.
Fire pits will be dug no deeper than 9 inches. There will be only two fires
per company street; one at each end of the street. Before the Sunday battle
all fires should be out and the sod replaced.
- Artillery pieces may be quartered with the unit, provided no modern
trailers of vehicles remain in camp
- Civilians must be in period attire if remaining in the camps during
the weekend.
- Camping is allowed only in predisignated areas.
- All women serving in the ranks will make a determined effort to disguise
the fact that they are female. This is historically accurate. Let's not
insult their memories.
Participation
- All company commanders are required to attend all officer's meetings;
this will include companies commanded by Nco's. Unit commanders will be
held accoutable for the actions of the men and women (of course we know
there aren't any women in the ranks) in their unit.
- All horses brought onto the site are required to have a current Coggins
certificate, which will be checked by the chief of horses of each army.
Failure to produce proof of coggins will result in the horse not being allowed
on the property.
- No participanyt under the age of 16 will be allowed to carry or fire
any firearm or serve on any cannon crew. No participant under the age of
12 years will be allowed on the field during the battles. Participants 12
- 15 years of age must ba a functional musician certified and assigned by
the Chief of Music to be on the field. A parent or guardian who is responsible
for him / her for the weekend must accompany that person.
- The standard safety rules of camp and field as approved by the CWRLC
are in effect.
Uniforms
- All officers shall be in proper relation to the number of men they
command.
- Officers and NCO's should be kept to a minimum in each unit. Officers
must be correctly attired and equipped with sword and sidearm.
- Uniforms and equipment must represent the Civil War time period -
AUTHENTICS ONLY. It is required that all participants attempt an 1864 appearance
for this event. The use of modern blue jeans, modern work shirts, pants,
desert boots, and eyewear willnot be permitted. Uniforms should be made
of woolen materials. Troops will be inspected. NO SYNTHETICS. Sack coat,
shell jacket, or all participants when on the battlefield or under arms
will wear frock coat. This is for your safety.
Battles
- Infantry participants should allow 200 rounds of ammunition for the
weekend. Any participant running out f ammunition will be expected to become
a casualty.
- Close fighting, if done, shall be rehearsed prior to the battle. Ths
will be done only by those groups given permission by the commanding officers
to do so, and only if it pertains to the battle scenario. Except when simulating
a hit, all participants are expected to reamin with their units. NO CHARGING
THE ENEMY BY AN INDIVIDUAL WILL BE TOLERATED.
- The use of National or Battle flags during the battle will be at the
discretion of the overall commanders.
- Hand to hand combat is prohibited at all times.
Weapons
- No live ammunition will be allowed on the grounds. Weapons may not
be discharged within the brounderies of the camp area and are to be discharged
only during the battle re-enactments. An exception will be made only in
the instance of a re-enactor - at the discretion of his commanding officer
- firing his piece to insure that it is safe to take into the re-enactment
battle.
- Infantry longarms will be charged with no more than 60 grains of powder.
Two band weapons or cut down weapons of any kind are not allowed. No flintlocks,
Kentucky Rifles, shotguns, modern style rifles, or modern pistols are to
be used or displayed. In other words NO NON-PERIOD WEAPONS.
- All weapons must pass the weapons insection prior to the start of
the battles. Any weapons failing the weapons inspection will be tagged and
not permitted on the field unless repairs to the firearm have been made
and the firearm has been inspected, certified and passed.
- No "penny wrapper", staples, wads or tape are to be used in making
cartridges. No fixed bayonets during the battle. Ramrods may be carried,
but not used. Bayonets must remain sheathed during the battles. NO BOWIE
KNIVES will be used or carried on the field.
- Direct, aimed fire shall not take place inside 40 yards distance.
In no case firing will take place inside 25 yards distance between opposing
forces.
- No bulk (Black) powder is permited.
- Artillery must wait 10 minutes between firing. For demonstrations,
6 pounders and smaller may be fired every 5 minutes.
- Any edged weapons must have dulled edges and blunted points.
Throwning of tomahawks, axes, or knives is not permitted. The public
shall not be allowed to handle any edged weapon. Edged weapons must
be kept sheathed when not in use.
General Rules
- No one except military participants will be allowed on the battlefieldduring
the battles. This area includes the entire Federal and Confederate camps.
Spectators need to leave these areas one half hour before the start of the
battle. Civilian re-enactors may remain in camp at their own risk with their
commander's approval.
- All registration applications are subject to approval of the 2nd
Michigan Vol. Inf. "E" Company. All participants must register upon arrival.
Senior officer's rank needs to be included on the registration form, along
with a complete listing of participants for each unit. Any unit that does
not list the participating members on the registration form will not be
considered as registered that participant will be the walk-on fee of $7.00.
- No cameras or electronic video equipment will be carried or used on
the battlefield during the reenactments
- The standard rules of camp & field are in effect. They are to
be respected and obeyed. Anyone acting in an unsafe manner will be asked
to leave immediately. There will be no refund of participation fee in this
instance
